Call for Papers
Papers and proposals for sessions of three or four papers are invited on all aspects of the culture and society of early modern Europe, c.1300-1700. The organizers especially encourage work that explores:
- the history of the book (with a special emphasis on reading and printing)
- print and manuscript culture
- concepts of authorship and authority
- performance and performativity (both public and private, theatrical and otherwise)
- what terms like reading, writing, performance, print, and publication mean in the context of the ever-changing field of Renaissance studies
Interdisciplinary approaches to these and related topics are particularly welcome.
One-page abstracts for individual papers accompanied by one-page CVs should be sent to pnrc2010@gmail.com no later than 15 February 2010. Panel proposals should include an abstract for each paper, a one-page C.V. for each presenter, and a paragraph from the panel organizer describing the overall focus of the session. (Please note that the organizers will be pleased to receive papers from as well as panels organized by and for graduate students.)
The organizers also look forward to considering proposals for roundtable sessions, poster sessions, and demonstrations of innovative research projects (especially digital humanities projects). Queries about such sessions should be sent to pnrc2010@gmail.com no later than 31 January 2010.
Receipt of proposals will be acknowledged by email. Acceptance of proposals and a preliminary conference schedule will be distributed no later than April 2010.
